Department of Physical Chemistry and Materials Science, University of Szeged

The predecessor of the University of Szeged is the University of Cluj-Napoca, founded in 1872 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. Among its teachers was Albert Szent-Györgyi, one of the founders of the Faculty of Science, who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937 for his discoveries in connection with Vitamin C.

Providing university education in a variety of fields in chemistry, the Institute of Chemistry consists of a range of departments belonging to the Faculty of Science and Informatics of the University of Szeged. One of these departments is the Department of Physical Chemistry and Materials Science, which plays a prominent role in BSc, MSc and PhD training and education.

Each of the departments carries out high-standard research programmes, which is verified by the national and international acknowledgement of the chemical research and studies in Szeged, the remarkable number of scientific publications, and the cooperations with several prominent research groups from various universities abroad.
